Ronnie’s unlikely traveling companion (the short, round Wei-Lin) is like a cute, chubby Asian version of the kid from Up! The tyke keeps a cricket tied to his finger as a pet.

Pretty plausible airplane pilots effect.

You can imagine how this scene goes. Ronnie finds the only white woman in China and laconically shits on her goals and dreams from behind a hard-bitten exterior of cynical wisecracks while paying her joyless compliments about her womanly topography.

“You name it, they’ve got it here. A little of everything. From everywhere. It’s a listening post for commie China, a rumor mill, a propaganda machine, a way station. Where almost everybody’s running away from something. That’s right, everybody. Including me. That’s Hong Kong.”
